PREPARACIÓN Y CONSEJOS PARA EL EXAMEN TOEFL

La forma inteligente de prepararte para tu examen TOEFL (sin agotarse)

Seamos sinceros, prepararse para el examen TOEFL puede resultar abrumador. Pero aquí está la cuestión. Una mala estrategia de estudio puede hacer que la preparación sea más difícil de lo necesario. Aunque puedas dedicar más horas, tus sesiones pueden no ser tan productivas y, en algunos casos, el cansancio puede llevar a sesiones de estudio de menor calidad. Entonces, ¿qué deberías hacer en su lugar? Trabaja con inteligencia.

Cuanto más bien estudies, mejor te irá el día del examen. La clave para tener éxito en el estudio es construir un sistema que entrene tu cerebro sin someterte a demasiado estrés.

Teniendo esto en cuenta, aquí tienes tres estrategias de estudio respaldadas por la ciencia diseñadas para ayudarte a prepararte para tu examen TOEFL.

1. Sesiones cortas y enfocadas

Una de las mejores formas de tener una sesión de estudio productiva es mantenerla corta. Tu cerebro no está programado para concentrarse a fondo durante horas. De hecho, muchos estudios muestran que la concentración disminuye después de 30 minutos. Esto significa que si estudias dos horas sin descanso, probablemente estés absorbiendo demasiada información.

En su lugar, utiliza métodos como la Técnica Pomodoro. Durante la Técnica Pomodoro estudias durante 25 minutos seguidos de una pausa de 5 minutos. Si quieres estudiar durante más tiempo, puedes repetir esto cuatro veces y luego tomarte un descanso más largo.

Esta estructura te permite estudiar en sesiones cortas e intensas mientras mantienes la concentración. Durante estas sesiones puedes realizar una tarea de escucha cronometrada, leer y anotar un pasaje, escribir tu propio pasaje o practicar tu expresión oral. Como la sesión es más corta, muchos estudiantes encuentran más fácil mantenerse concentrados en lugar de distraerse.

Estas sesiones cortas son una forma fantástica de reducir la procrastinación. En lugar de temer una larga sesión de estudio de 2 horas, dite a ti mismo que empezarás con 25 minutos. Esos 25 minutos serán mucho más rápidos de lo que esperabas y podrás acumular rápidamente 2 horas de estudio.

A medida que introduces las sesiones de Pomodoro en tu horario de estudio, puedes ganar un impulso significativo sin el agotamiento mental que provienen de largas y sin interrupciones de estudio.

2. Hacer que los descansos sean más productivos

Lo que hagas durante tus descansos de estudio es tan importante como las propias sesiones. Aunque muchos estudiantes eligen desplazarse por las redes sociales, más tiempo frente a la pantalla podría hacer más daño que bien.

¿Por qué? En lugar de darle a tu cerebro el tiempo que necesita para descansar, procesar y consolidar lo que has aprendido, estás consumiendo aún más información.

En lugar de cambiar una pantalla por otra, haz que tus descansos sean más productivos. Muévete, sal a caminar, estiraos o cómprate algo de picar. Estas actividades dan tiempo a tu cerebro para reiniciarse mientras reducen las hormonas del estrés, aumentando tu capacidad de concentración durante la próxima sesión de estudio.

3. Establecer objetivos diarios realistas

Uno de los mayores errores que cometen los estudiantes al estudiar para los exámenes es empollar a la hora. Intentan hacerlo todo en un solo día en una sesión de estudio enorme. Después del primer día se sienten cansados y al tercer día están quemados.

Este enfoque de estudio es insostenible y desmotivador. Entonces, ¿qué deberías hacer en su lugar?

Establece objetivos diarios realistas con tiempo suficiente para prepararte para el examen. Un objetivo realista es estudiar entre 1 y 2 horas al día, de 3 a 5 veces por semana. En estas sesiones cortas y enfocadas de estudio puedes prepararte para el examen sin agobiarte.

Antes de cada sesión, fija un objetivo principal. Por ejemplo: "Hoy leeré un pasaje del TOEFL y responderé a las preguntas", o "Practicaré dos tareas de expresión oral y me grabaré." Estos objetivos concretos y manejables te ayudan a ganar impulso y a mantener tus sesiones de estudio lo más enfocadas posible.

Al repartir la carga de trabajo te das tiempo para trabajar en áreas más débiles sin el estrés de un entorno de examen.

Consejo extra: Estudia de forma pasiva para mejorar tu inglés

Cuando se trata de estudiar, probablemente pienses en exámenes y en tomar apuntes. Pero hay muchas formas estupendas de practicar inglés fuera de los bloques de estudio habituales.

Por ejemplo, puedes leer revistas online en inglés centradas en temas que te gusten. Alternativamente, puedes escuchar podcasts en inglés mientras paseas. Estas son formas estupendas de mejorar tu inglés sin tener que sentarte a tomar notas.

Reflexiones finales: Trabaja de forma más inteligente, no más dura

Prepararse para el TOEFL no tiene por qué ser estresante. Reserva tu examen meses antes de que planees hacerlo y crea una rutina de estudio que se adapte a tu estilo de vida. La clave aquí es el equilibrio. Quieres darte tiempo para estudiar cada semana sin agotarte.

Combinando sesiones cortas y centradas con pausas regulares y objetivos realistas. Te estás entrenando para desarrollar disciplina, y lo que aprendas se acumulará rápidamente, ayudándote a sentirte más seguro el día del examen.
